Food Additives Every Dairy Allergy Sufferer Needs to Avoid
Written on July 29, 2008
Most individuals who discover they are allergic to dairy try to eliminate it from their diet. They cautiously read the label on every food item, scanning for any form of dairy; milk, lactose, yogurt, cheese, whey. Yet, some apparently dairy-free foods still make them feel awful. Or worse, their health never improved after eliminating dairy and they dont know why.
If you suffer from dairy allergy or dairy intolerance you should beware of the following list of food additives. Each of these additives can be made from dairy and could make you sick. Print this list out and keep it in your wallet or purse so that you can check food labels for these hidden sources of dairy.
Food Additives That May Contain Dairy:
Albumins
Calcium caseinate
Calcium lactate
Calcium stearoyl lactylate
Casein
Lactalbumin
Lactic Acid
Potassium lactate
Sodium stearoyl fumarate
Stearoyls
If you have successfully eliminated dairy and dairy derivatives, such as the above food additives, from your diet then you have also significantly decreased the amount of calcium in your diet. Make sure you get adequate calcium by including the following foods in your dairy-free diet:
Almonds, Sesame Seeds, Filberts (also called Hazel nuts)
Asparagus, Cabbage, Broccoli
Blackstrap Molasses
Figs, Prunes
Kale, Collard, Turnip Greens, Mustard Greens, Dandelion Greens
Fennel seeds, Fenugreek, Chamomile
Enriched alternative milks such as Rice milk, Soy milk or Almond milk
Sardines, Seafood, Salmon (with the bones)
Oats, Soybeans, Tofu
