Digital Scrapbooking, Using Images as your Paper
Written on July 17, 2008
How much time do you spend searching for the perfect paper to complement a photograph for a scrapbook page? Sorting through your hundreds of options. Why not keep it simple and use a photograph as the paper instead.
Scrapbook pages are supposed to tell a story and sometime you need several photographs to really convey to the viewer what that story is. Especially if the person viewing the scrapbook does not know the story. You want to keep your scrapbook page simple, uncluttered, and retain a strong focus point.
So how do you achieve telling the story and keeping one strong focal point. Use other photographs, the ones that tell the story and convey what was happening in that moment, as the background instead of a patterned paper.
Digital scrapbooking makes this process effortless, all you need is your creativity. There are many effects you can apply to a photograph in a graphics program, fading the picture, using a sketch effect, or converting to a different color tone. Different effects can make a photograph look like various painting styles as well. All these make for a creative, unique digital scrapbook page.
For best results, youll want to convert your background photograph to black and white or a sepia tone and then fade the opacity of it, so its not so prominent. Then choose your location for your focal picture. Apply whatever effects you would like to it, add borders, elements, but not too much, as you dont want to clutter your canvas.
Using your photographs as your background, as your paper canvas, makes for a unique and creative display. It is a modern take on scrapbooking.
Digital scrapbooking is perfect for venturing into different territory, away from traditional methods and taking a more modern approach and the results can be stunning.
